gifts that grow | houston photographer

There are only a few more days until Christmas is here. People have shifted into their frantic holiday mode and seem to have tunnel vision (no, maybe not all of them, but a lot!).

This will likely be my last post before Christmas so I thought I’d post a few little things I’ve found in the last few months. I love buying from charities and organizations that have a purpose behind them. IF you’re in a jam and can’t figure out a gift to give someone, perhaps think of any one of these. Any one of them is a gift that grow, whether it’s message can grow in someone’s heart, help someone on the other side of the world thrive, or grow spiritually…

Help give a child in Bubanza an education by purchasing a desk for them! Click the image below to read a beautiful story about how life is changing for students there!

I somehow came acros Sevenly.org earlier this year. Every week they feature a new t-shirt and a new organization to raise funds for. Through the sales of their t-shirts, they’ve helped little girls enslaved in sex-trafficking, helped give children education, helped to give water wells to people in need. I love what they are doing and I love wearing their tees while they do it :) Mostly, I love that part of my purchase helps to change the world, one tee at a time!

Samaritan’s Purse offers a wonderful option in their gift catalog. You can purchase a gift of an animal for food, clothing and education for a family or child in need in a foreign country.

This year, the kids and I looked over the hundreds of children that are currently in the Compassion Sponsorship program, and we all chose our first compassion child, Oscar. The kids are very excited to learn about Oscar and to pray for him. Sponsoring through Compassion will help Oscar to learn about God and the bible, provide medical check-ups, nutritional food , tutoring, school uniforms and more.

Walk In Love is a company whose message I love. They have great t-shirts with wonderful messages and, well, again, I just love the message they send” Walk In Love. If anything, it’s a little reminder for me as I go about my day.

Clean water means a brighter future, less disease…Hope. For a gift as small as $25, you help give the gift of life and growth by giving them clean water. Water.org helps you do just that by offering many different ways you can contribute, weather just a donation or purchasing a water bottle or t-shirt.

This summer I bought a watch from Hello Somebody. It’s light blue and stands out. It’s an eye-catcher. But what’s more is that it’s an opportunity to talk about this organization and what purchasing the watch actually did: Feed people! Hello Somebody’s mission is this: Hello Somebody exists to feed and educate children, by providing an avenue of knowledge, in order to break the cycle of poverty and hunger within their generation. You can purchase t-shirts, watches, hoodies and more and while you do, you help to feed people.

So, that’s my list. I hope you take the time to look at and perhaps purchase one thing from at least one of these stores!

Care to share any organizations or charities that you contribute to? I’m always on the lookout!

o Christmas tree | houston photographer

finishing up all orders this week and thought I’d stop in for a sec and share a little something. It seems the kids have taken over the Christmas tree decorating in this house. And as much as I would love to have the tree decorated my way, I love even more that they are making these memories and putting their own creativity into our tree.

My friend, Linda, over at willow nest made up a sweet tree for me a few years back. I love how light and fluffy it is. I decided to redecorate it and add some little zoozoos that I picked up from BHLDN a few weeks ago. So, even though it’s not the big family Christmas tree, I do have my own little tree in my office that is very much me.

I hope you find a space in your home that you have for your very own! I’ve found it to be very therapeutic to have my own creativity in a space that is untouched by the rest of the family…well, as untouched as it can be with 3 children and a little puppy running around!

Be Merry,

C.

P.S. If you’re a photographer and are wondering about those silver gilded cameras, I found them at ZGALLERIE a few weeks ago for less than $10 each!

love is all you need | Cypress Family Photographer

Nailing down a date for a session can be hard. Making sure everyone is on the same page, that one person or another doesn’t have something going on…It can be even harder when one person or another lives out of town. We’d initially thought we could do this session last year during the Thanksgiving week, but one thing or another came up and, well, it just didn’t happen. But we were not going to let that get in the way this year. No Way, Jose. And another thing we weren’t going to let get in the way? The weather. Freezing cold, super fast wind, frost bite kind of weather? Well, you’d never know in the photos below that this is exactly the kind of weather we had :)

I love all this love. I mean look at them? They are freezing their booties off and yet no one is crabby or fighting…if anything, cold weather makes you want to huddle together and lean on each other for warmth, right? Somehow, I think this family huddles together, even when it isn’t 40F outside…

in it – Houston Family and Child Photographer (personal post)

The last stretch, that is. Oi Vey. I am vowing that next year, I will begin buying gifts and planning holidays in March. The mad rush to buy gifts is always so frustrating to me. If I could get away with donating to some charity for every person I know, I would do it in a second!

This post is a bit random, but I realized that I haven’t posted in a while. So here it is…

Santa sent us our very own elf this year! He arrived on our doorstep yesterday and my middle was so excited. His words: I can’t believe out of all the kids on this street that Santa sent us our very own elf! The elf arrived with a note from Santa:

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        November 28, 2011

Dear D, A and J,

I hope that you had a wonderful Thanksgiving! Mrs. Claus and I really enjoyed having all of the elves and reindeer over for dinner. I think I ate too much though because a button on my suit has busted open! Don’t let Mrs. Claus know or she will make me go to the gym and run a mile or two every day.

We are preparing for Christmas Day and I hope you are too! I peeked in your window and noticed the tree is up. Yay! But I also want to remind you that, while I love giving gifts for Christmas, it is important to remember the real reason for the season, Jesus. Mrs. Claus and I are so thankful that Jesus came to save us and teach us how to love like God loves us. While you are getting ready for Christmas, don’t forget to be thankful and giving, just as Jesus did.

And so, I am sending you this little something to keep you on your toes and keep check on you. I want to make sure you are on the Nice List this year, each one of you!

I’ll be getting reports daily, so be on your best behavior!

Love,

Santa Claus

PS, I really enjoy peanut butter cookies!

I am sure that you have seen The Elf on the Shelf floating around the internet and in stores all over the place. They even created a new movie about the Elf. I have wanted to incorporate the idea in to our Christmas, but didn’t want to lose sight of the true meaning of the season. The kids already get so glazed over with all the treats and gifts and glamour during this season, so I made sure the letter sent led back to Jesus.

I found this Advent Guide from The Village Church and will be making sure that we incorporate it into our days leading up to Christ’s birthday. They also created this wonderful message on Advent, take a look if you have a few minutes!

We have a new family member. Her name is Molly and we are so happy to have her.

She’s a snuggly little one and I can’t help but laugh at her mischief. The kids love her, too, and are taking responsibility in being her owners :)

What are your Christmas Traditions?  How are you remembering the true Reason for the Season, this year?
