meet bruiser {personal}

If you follow me on facebook or instagram, you’ll know that we had a guest staying with us this weekend. His name is Bruiser and he’s my littlest’s sclass pet. She was so super excited to bring him home and hang out with him for the weekend and so excited to be the very first classmate to start his adventure with.

Another thing we were supposed to do with Bruiser is write a little bit in his journal about things we did as well as draw pictures and/or take photos…Well…I might have set the bar a bit high, but I couldn’t help it! Jules is gonna love to look back at these memories :)

it overwhelms me | cypress family photography

How each one of the people in our families was meant to be there? My family wouldn’t feel complete if we didn’t have my daughter. Oh, I’m sure we’d get by, but she just adds this little girl magic. And the same goes for each of the boys. They each add their own little touch to help our family feel complete. It’s amazing how it all works and how God just knew that we all belonged with each other.

I think this is how all families are made up. Each person brings something to the group that not only shows who they, themselves, are, but helps the others show who they are and who they’re meant to be. The relationships we have with each other help us grow into these great human beings.

This family below, they’re made up one-of-a-kind people, but together, they’ve created something amazing. I loved spending a relaxing evening with the H family. Their easy-going personalities mixed with their fun and loving ways allowed everyone to feel free and at ease. I was so touched when, at the end of the session, the younger two offered me these beautiful and unique handmade “thank you” cards. I was on the verge of tears when they gave ‘em to me. Susan, your sweet comment on my “re-launch” post was amazing. I am so touched and so happy to play a small role in your lives. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for the opportunity, not only to take your photos, but to get to know your family more. xxo

Picture taking is painless when you have awesome people to photograph. Take a look…

family is love | houston photography

I’ve photographed this little baby a few times already this year. But this session was super special because it’s her first real photo session as the newest member of their family. It’s so awesome to see how loved she is, both by her parents but by her big brother too. He has loved her so much from the time he knew her growing in mama’s tummy. Just another awesome thing I get to witness by being invited in to photograph families!

Take a peek at a few sneaks I know they’re waiting for!

back in the saddle | cypress family photographer

Whew. What a year. Almost a year ago, I decided to take a break from my busy business. I needed to pull back and be certain of where I felt God leading me. In all honesty, I had this naive idea that there would be this clear and loud direction in which I was to go. This was not the case. In fact, there was nothing clear about those first few months of being “off”.

The best thing for me, however, was that I was patient. This is a feat in itself because I am not the most patient person. But I committed to taking time off to enjoy and rest and live. I’ve learned about who I am, what I need in my life, how to be a better wife/mom/person. I have learned my limits and boundaries and I’ve learned that creating is a passion. But more than that, capturing love and connection between people is such a part of who I am, what inspires me and what helps me to see God’s love. I’ve said, this whole year, that I want to glorify God in this. What I’ve learned is that capturing your love and your relationship is an act of worship for me, and without it I’m just seeking and searching. Over and over in the last few months you, my friends and clients, have reiterated this to me in one conversation after another. Perhaps, this is what I was meant to do all along…

And so here I am, ready to move and capture more. Ready to help lead you into making picture perfect memories that truly reflect the parts of your family and your life that you want to remember and freeze. I’m more focused and determined, excited and inspired than ever before!

To celebrate my return, I’m giving away a holiday mini session to one lucky family! Here’s how you can enter to win!

  • Leave a comment on this blog post so I know you are entering the contest.

repeats | houston family photography

There is no greater compliment than when a client returns to me for another session. I first met this family way back in 2008. When mom called me, I’ll be honest, I had to rack my brain to bring forth their family’s imprinted image. Once I retrieved it, I wondered how I misplaced it in the first place. Their gorgeous kids and their beautiful smiles and how much I had photographing them…

But they came back for another session and this is even better than the first. The kids have grown into their personalities and this little family is so comfortable. I loved every second of trying to get them to smile (or be serious!). Take a peek:
