celebrating love | Houston family photographer

There’s this crazy thing that happens when you listen to people’s stories, when you sit and pray for them, when you open yourself up to them. They do the same thing for you.

I met Karen through a friend sometime last year. She’s one of the sweetest gals with the biggest of hearts. A large part of her heart is filled with her passion and love for her neice and nephew.  When I first met Karen, it was the beginning of a long journey that she had ahead of her. Lot’s of questions, lot’s of  fears and a whole lot of love. For many reasons I won’t go into now, Karen and her husband have adopted them (legally) into their immediate family.

The joy and love these kiddos have in their new family is amazing to witness.

I know so many people recently who have chosen adoption and I think it’s an amazing thing when you open yourself up to taking in another child who isn’t yours by blood. My friend Lisa is starting up an adoption ministry over at the Met. It’s brand new and exciting and a Christian ministry for people with questions about adopting children. If you’re interested in finding out more information, please visit this link (the ministry is called HAVEN)! You can also contact Lisa by phone at (832) 454-6302.

love

“Photography is a way of feeling, of touching, of loving. What you have caught on film is captured forever… it remembers little things, long after you have forgotten everything.”

-Aaron Siskind

I’m writing this blog before I’ve even begun processing any of the images or sneaks from this session. I know, it’s a bit unconventional, but there is so much joy coming from the images on my second screen and as I go through them, I feel compelled to write. The only title I could think of to do this post justice is ‘love’.

I loved this day. I didn’t expect that it would turn out the way it did, but because I was asked to photograph this family and event by someone that is so close to my heart, I don’t know why I am surprised of the way the day just fell into place.

When I’m asked to photograph families, I feel so blessed. I get to see them for who and what they are. For how they respond and interact with each other. I get to laugh and celebrate with them; to hear their inside jokes and stories. This family had so many, and my cheeks hurt from laughing with them. And as I spent the afternoon waiting for the next part of the photo shoot to start, I almost felt as if I were apart of their family.

So, with that said, I’mso happy to share a few photos of these wonderful people. I swear you can feel their happiness from the smiles in these photos. I love families.

This wonderful couple celebrated their 50th anniversary on Monday. I wish them many more years of love and happiness together!

all boy | Houston Child Photographers

Before we had our daughter, I was a little bit freaked out about the idea of having a girl. You see, I’d been chasing after two little boys for some time and had it all figured out. I had no idea what to do with a girl! The boys are carefree and crazy; energetic and oh so curious. The funny thing is, before I had the boys, I felt like I had no clue as to how I would raise them! But their frog-catching, mud-slinging personalities quickly grew on me.

This little guy is all boy, too! During our session there was so much to see and he wanted to check it all out! I quickly made promises that as soon as we were finished he could go on his expedition. I think he did pretty good considering he wanted to be out running around and exploring :) take a peek!

A few weeks ago, I met this great looking family out at a park here in Cypress. I blogged a few sneak peeks and mentioned how cute this little girl is. As I sat and edited their images, I found myself smiling. Her smile is so infectious!  My favorite family sessions are the ones that are relaxed and not stuffy! I know if you’ve read my blog or session info, you’ll see that stuffy and super “pose-y” turns me off creatively. Take a look at this family’s session and see how happy they are together!
