If you’ve ever been lucky enough to hear her talk, you’ll agree that she is inspirational. From her yearning to be a missionary as a young woman, to acting that out and doing it as a grown woman, and now leading Cypress residents in doing the same…Yes, she’s definitley inspirational.

I’ve only known Laura a few months, but she’ll agree that the moment we met, it was as if we were old friends. Laura is so sweet, so genuine, so full- full of faith, full of dreams, full of hope and full of love. I am truly blessed to know her and am inspired by her every time we talk.

A few weeks ago she asked me to take a photograph of her as she is being honored as an inspirational woman with an organization here in Houston. I happily obliged and the following are a few shots we got that day. You know how sometimes you have to force yourself to smile, and smile your real smile? Laura didn’t even have to try. I think she’s so happy (even though she might say she’s pessimistic), that her natural smile just comes out. take a peek:

A few weeks ago, I asked my friend and fellow photographer to come out to my Andre’s flag football game. Now, I have to admit that I tried my hand at this sports photography thing. But you know what they say: stick to what you’re good at. So, with that being said, you can understand why I called Sonny out to come do his magic Sonny Cantu owns Gametime Photography and has been shooting action and sports for a long time…long enough to perfect it, which I think I won’t ever be able to do…I like my subjects sitting still (well, as still as they can get, anyway).

Boys and Girls Country Fest Cancelled | Houston Family Photography

I’m heartbroken to have to share this news. I know the Boys and Girls Country work so hard throughout the year to make this event happen as it’s one of the biggest fundraising events they have to help care for their 88 boys and girls. Below is an email I received with more information. When I hear the news I’ll be sure to let you know!

After Quintes Stark, our Director of Operations, walked the grounds this morning after the downpour of rain last night, and vehicle-tested the possibility of parking 2000-3000 cars in an already soggy, muddy field that won’t be dry for a week….and with the likelihood that rain may continue as it has today….we are canceling the Spring Festival on-site event — for only the second time in almost two decades.

We had to make the decision today. Aztec Tents & Events was packed and ready to send their crew out here in the morning to set up all of our booths and tents. We felt relatively comfortable that we could get most of the event set up on mostly dry land, but we have no place that you and the friends you have recruited to volunteer with you could safely park.

We considered re-scheduling, but with the hundreds of volunteers and logistics involved, we knew that was not feasible.

We considered shuttling our guests from a paved parking lot further down on Roberts Road, but know that getting 3000 people back and forth to our festival would be a logistics nightmare.

But we also know that we desperately need the funds that would have been raised on Saturday.

So, what are we doing?

v     We are canceling all the things that will cost money to save on expenses
v     We are planning a Silent and Live Auction on line and through mail
v     We will design other creative ways to communicate with our friends and donors to let them know how they can help.

I am so sorry that we cannot control the weather — or the land that floods around us. Other than that, we’re on it! Stay with us and stay tuned!

Last Call and a fundraiser!

Hey everyone! I posting here from lovely Phoenix! I just wanted to post a few things!

First, Friday at midnight is your deadline to get in a family picture! At the moment I only have a few entries and really, this is a fantastic opportunity for a chance to win a fantastic photo package! Be sure to send me a family picture at contest@christielacy.com by midnight Friday the 10th!!

Also, if any of you are looking for an easy way to cook up dinner on Tuesday the 14th, come on down to EJ’s Pizzeria (located at Barker Cypress and 290 in the Randall’s shopping center) from 5-8 pm to help raise funds for a fantastic cause. I told you about my client Ryan and his family a few weeks ago. Ryan has epilepsy and his team has already raised over $8k in donations to help the IDEA League and the Houston chapter of the National Epilepsy Foundation. Tuesday, 15% of sales between 5 and 8 will go towards the Houston Chapter of the NEF! And there are going to be doorprizes!! And guess who’s giving away something? Yes! Here’s some more information about this organization!

Located in Hockley (Northwest Houston) Boys and Girls Country www.boysandgirlscountry.org has provided a Home for children since 1971 and currently serves up to 88 boys and girls between the ages of 5 and 18 from throughout the Houston area. These are all children from families who can no longer take care of them. Our goal is to provide these children a very caring home where they can feel secure and build skills to become successful adults.

Since Boys and Girls Country does not apply for government grants or United Way funding, over $4.7 million must be raised annually from individuals, corporations, foundations, and special events to provide children a home. In addition, we provide support to over 70 youth who have graduated from high school while at Boys and Girls Country and are in college or trade school.

One of our major special events is Spring Festival (flyer below) which will be held on May 2, 2009. This is an annual event which drew over 3,200 attendees on May 3, 2008 and raised over $510,000. Our goal is to continue to grow this event so that we can in turn provide more services to children needing a home.

If you’re a mom with cute little girls, chances are you’ve heard about MJ somewhere along the way. MJ offers fabulous and stylish clothing for girls (and a few things for moms too)!

Ryan’s Lions – Houston Children and Family Photography

Back in November, I met the Otchis family. We had such a wonderful and fun filled photo shoot, even if it was a muggy and dreary day. The kids held up wonderfully and the photographs turned out fantastic. I’m so glad they chose me to capture their moments for them!

I want to share with you a link to their support page for their youngest son, Ryan. This brave little boy has been living with epilepsy nearly his whole life. In a few short weeks, Ryan’s Lions will be out joining others much like him in the Houston Epilepsy’s Spring Stroll.
