o Christmas tree | houston photographer

finishing up all orders this week and thought I’d stop in for a sec and share a little something. It seems the kids have taken over the Christmas tree decorating in this house. And as much as I would love to have the tree decorated my way, I love even more that they are making these memories and putting their own creativity into our tree.

My friend, Linda, over at willow nest made up a sweet tree for me a few years back. I love how light and fluffy it is. I decided to redecorate it and add some little zoozoos that I picked up from BHLDN a few weeks ago. So, even though it’s not the big family Christmas tree, I do have my own little tree in my office that is very much me.

I hope you find a space in your home that you have for your very own! I’ve found it to be very therapeutic to have my own creativity in a space that is untouched by the rest of the family…well, as untouched as it can be with 3 children and a little puppy running around!

Be Merry,

C.

P.S. If you’re a photographer and are wondering about those silver gilded cameras, I found them at ZGALLERIE a few weeks ago for less than $10 each!

in it – Houston Family and Child Photographer (personal post)

The last stretch, that is. Oi Vey. I am vowing that next year, I will begin buying gifts and planning holidays in March. The mad rush to buy gifts is always so frustrating to me. If I could get away with donating to some charity for every person I know, I would do it in a second!

This post is a bit random, but I realized that I haven’t posted in a while. So here it is…

Santa sent us our very own elf this year! He arrived on our doorstep yesterday and my middle was so excited. His words: I can’t believe out of all the kids on this street that Santa sent us our very own elf! The elf arrived with a note from Santa:

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        November 28, 2011

Dear D, A and J,

I hope that you had a wonderful Thanksgiving! Mrs. Claus and I really enjoyed having all of the elves and reindeer over for dinner. I think I ate too much though because a button on my suit has busted open! Don’t let Mrs. Claus know or she will make me go to the gym and run a mile or two every day.

We are preparing for Christmas Day and I hope you are too! I peeked in your window and noticed the tree is up. Yay! But I also want to remind you that, while I love giving gifts for Christmas, it is important to remember the real reason for the season, Jesus. Mrs. Claus and I are so thankful that Jesus came to save us and teach us how to love like God loves us. While you are getting ready for Christmas, don’t forget to be thankful and giving, just as Jesus did.

And so, I am sending you this little something to keep you on your toes and keep check on you. I want to make sure you are on the Nice List this year, each one of you!

I’ll be getting reports daily, so be on your best behavior!

Love,

Santa Claus

PS, I really enjoy peanut butter cookies!

I am sure that you have seen The Elf on the Shelf floating around the internet and in stores all over the place. They even created a new movie about the Elf. I have wanted to incorporate the idea in to our Christmas, but didn’t want to lose sight of the true meaning of the season. The kids already get so glazed over with all the treats and gifts and glamour during this season, so I made sure the letter sent led back to Jesus.

I found this Advent Guide from The Village Church and will be making sure that we incorporate it into our days leading up to Christ’s birthday. They also created this wonderful message on Advent, take a look if you have a few minutes!

We have a new family member. Her name is Molly and we are so happy to have her.

She’s a snuggly little one and I can’t help but laugh at her mischief. The kids love her, too, and are taking responsibility in being her owners :)

What are your Christmas Traditions?  How are you remembering the true Reason for the Season, this year?

meet bruiser {personal}

If you follow me on facebook or instagram, you’ll know that we had a guest staying with us this weekend. His name is Bruiser and he’s my littlest’s sclass pet. She was so super excited to bring him home and hang out with him for the weekend and so excited to be the very first classmate to start his adventure with.

Another thing we were supposed to do with Bruiser is write a little bit in his journal about things we did as well as draw pictures and/or take photos…Well…I might have set the bar a bit high, but I couldn’t help it! Jules is gonna love to look back at these memories :)

getting crafty

Ho hum. My guy has been home all week and it looks like he’ll be missing tomorrow as well. Poor thing. For the most part, I think he feels ok, but the temp just keeps fluctuating. We’ve been blessed that we’ve never had to deal with strep before, so I can’t complain too much.

I think he’s just getting bored with all the resting and homework, and yes, even the wii! So today we made a quick trip to pick up a little craft to pass the time. I’d been eyeing a DIY that I saw on pinterest a week or so ago, so I thought this was a good opportunity to try it out and give him something to do as well.

Have you joined pinterest yet? Oh me oh my. It’s a DIYer’s dream. Oh and it’s a shopaholic’s, crafter’s, creative’s, non-creative’s dream as well. My mom used to take ideas out of magazine’s and put them in a big binder. This is the same thing, except online and you have access to practically anyone’s idea board!

I found this tutorial the other day and I thought I’d give it a go. For the most part, it turned out pretty spot-on. I didn’t have the specific names of the paints that were used in the tutorial when I went to Hobby Lobby, so I just decided to wing it. I’m excited to try another word or two, seeing that this one turned out pretty great!

Btw, if you’re so inclined, you can see my pinboards here!

oh, and my guy? He worked on something seasonal :) I love how he put so much thought into this little turkey. I can’t wait until it’s ready for the door :)

it overwhelms me | cypress family photography

How each one of the people in our families was meant to be there? My family wouldn’t feel complete if we didn’t have my daughter. Oh, I’m sure we’d get by, but she just adds this little girl magic. And the same goes for each of the boys. They each add their own little touch to help our family feel complete. It’s amazing how it all works and how God just knew that we all belonged with each other.

I think this is how all families are made up. Each person brings something to the group that not only shows who they, themselves, are, but helps the others show who they are and who they’re meant to be. The relationships we have with each other help us grow into these great human beings.

This family below, they’re made up one-of-a-kind people, but together, they’ve created something amazing. I loved spending a relaxing evening with the H family. Their easy-going personalities mixed with their fun and loving ways allowed everyone to feel free and at ease. I was so touched when, at the end of the session, the younger two offered me these beautiful and unique handmade “thank you” cards. I was on the verge of tears when they gave ‘em to me. Susan, your sweet comment on my “re-launch” post was amazing. I am so touched and so happy to play a small role in your lives. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for the opportunity, not only to take your photos, but to get to know your family more. xxo

Picture taking is painless when you have awesome people to photograph. Take a look…
