I don’t really remember my prom. It wasn’t one of the most memorable times in my life, looking back. But, I lived in a small town and it wasn’t anything like the prom around here. These guys get 5 star treatment at one of the swanky hotels in the Galleria. They dine at fabulous restaurants in Houston (oh, Maggiano’s how I love thee – and how my tummy loves your lasagna!) and dance til midnight.

I was asked to take some pre-prom photos for the lovely Chelsea, but her schedule and mine conflicted earlier in the day. So I made the trek down to the Galleria to catch them after dinner and before the dance. Unfortunately, God had other plans because as we waited a huge thunderstorm blew in and we were stuck in Jamba Juice for 30-45 minutes. Side note: if you ever have to get stuck inside, run to Starbucks or The Container Store! Jamba Juice had crazy leaky ceilings. This was our view:

Kyra is awesome. She’s got her own style and her own personality and she totally owns it. When her mama booked me for her senior session, I was so pleased to find a story about who Kyra is and what her mother wanted captured. I always say that the best sessions are the ones that are well-prepared and thought out. Kyra wanted something different than all of the other kids at her school. She didn’t want boring barns and horses and fences. She wanted to stand out and so when I suggested a location, even though it was over an hour away from them, it didn’t matter how far it was. So long as it fit who she is and what she wanted for her senior photos!

I’m blown away at this girl. From the moment I met her and we got to talking, I was blown away. She is a force. She is smart. She has brains in her head and I believe that those brains are going to take her so many places.

Let me explain…

She has a goal in mind of what she wants her career to be, but she’s not limiting herself to that one thing. She’s pushing further, educating herself more, so that one day, she’ll have options if she ever needs them.

She values herself and believes that the lessons she’s learned in the past (paired with her amazing parents) have helped her understand those values. She knows where she wants to be and she knows what type of people she wants to be with.

She knows God and knows that He has a plan for her and that whatever she’s going through, He’s giving it to her for a reason.

She has a huge heart. She’s loyal to those she loves. She forgives those who’ve hurt her.

She is amazing and I know her parents are so proud.

Her name is Chanel, she’s graduating college in May and she most definitely has brains in her head.

When Chelsey and Kristina asked me to snap a few photos before they headed out to their dance, I was more than happy to do so. At first we were just going to go to a nearby location that had a lot of greenery. But as it happened, the only an hour before I found out about this place. New locations are always so fun to find and get to shoot at. New creativity and new possiblities. And to get to shoot here at this specific abandoned location with beautiful girls dressed in equally beautiful attire, well that’s just icing on the cake

There’s nothing else like your bff. Your touchstone, she knows your faults, she celebrates your successes. She knows you and loves you for who you are, even if you don’t agree on everything. And those disagreements don’t really matter, because what matters is that she’s there for you, and you’re there for her when the going gets tough. I ♥ my bff

And I LOVED this shoot. These two were so much fun to hang out with. I loved how fun and outgoing they were together. They brought out the beauty in each other and I just know they’re going to miss each other as they go away to college this coming school year. While many of us are lounging around the pool, going to the beach, vacationing, Krista is already beginning her senior year at Cy-Fair. Today she was photographed for her obligatory Cap and Gown photo for the yearbook. But last week, she opted to do some senior photos that expressed who she is. The great thing about my senior photo sessions is that I really am able to get to know these young adults. But better yet, they are given creative freedom to express who they are becoming, what they’re in to, and sometimes where they’re going. It’s so exciting! They’re on the brink of something great and to be able to capture this huge time in their lives…well I just feel lucky.

Last week, Michael’s mom called me to see if we could arrange for him to have his senior pictures taken. And being that we’re all on spring break, we hoped we could do it this week. Well, I was out of town earlier in the week, but Michael was able to come out and have his photos done out there. And I’m so glad he did! We had a lot of fun walking around this small town, meeting the town-folk in their golf carts and just hangin’ out. Michael is one awesome guy. He seems to have his plans made and hopes to major in engineering while in college. Michael, thanks for making the drive out! I hope you enjoy these!

Kaylin’s mom asked me to take some photographs of her for Kaylin’s yearbook picture. Kaylin wanted to be sure she got some shots of herself with her horse, the love of her life right now. So we set out for an afternoon at their home out in the country. Ok, let me just say, I love horses, I think their magnificent beings. But, they seem ginormous! Kaylin handles them with stride and force and passion. Me? fear. yep, they just seem so big and unpredictable. LOL, but we got through it, and got some pretty fantastic shots to boot!
