If you are a loyal blog follower, please let me apologize for seeming to fall off the face of the earth! These last few weeks of summer have had me running around crazy trying to be present with my kids and creating memories with them. I’ts been so nice to just go out and do fun things with them. We’ve gone to the pool nearly every other day, stopped for raspas more than a few times and had more than one lazy day. I longed for these days back in Spring. Now, though they won’t tell you, they’re ready to be back in school. Their becoming bored without a routine and reading and learning. I’m ready to begin the fall season and for cooler weather. It’s been insanely hot here. Stifling.

So school is starting, the Holidays will be here before you know it. Isn’t it amazing how fast time goes by? I swear the new year was just rung in, yet here we are 8 months in. Where have I been in it? A new goal of mine is to be in the moment. To live more significantly, to cherish the here and now. Last week, someone I follow on twitter tweeted this article out. Grab a tissue box.

I’ve been on a journey the last year or so. Wanting to do something more meaningful. I have a project that is in the works to capture realness: real memories, real love, real joy. I can’t wait to share it with you.

I’m writing this blog before I’ve even begun processing any of the images or sneaks from this session. I know, it’s a bit unconventional, but there is so much joy coming from the images on my second screen and as I go through them, I feel compelled to write. The only title I could think of to do this post justice is ‘love’.

I loved this day. I didn’t expect that it would turn out the way it did, but because I was asked to photograph this family and event by someone that is so close to my heart, I don’t know why I am surprised of the way the day just fell into place.

When I’m asked to photograph families, I feel so blessed. I get to see them for who and what they are. For how they respond and interact with each other. I get to laugh and celebrate with them; to hear their inside jokes and stories. This family had so many, and my cheeks hurt from laughing with them. And as I spent the afternoon waiting for the next part of the photo shoot to start, I almost felt as if I were apart of their family.

So, with that said, I’mso happy to share a few photos of these wonderful people. I swear you can feel their happiness from the smiles in these photos. I love families.

This wonderful couple celebrated their 50th anniversary on Monday. I wish them many more years of love and happiness together!

We met at a park in Scottsdale for the mini session event I held for my sister. She is raising money and awareness for the March of Dimes and this sweet family chose to support her in the effort!

The park was great and while I hadn’t been there before, I knew immediately where I wanted to shoot. This great big area of grass and trees had the most perfect evening light. And it’s very rare that you find anything green in the Phoenix desert! The kiddos were so sweet. Miss E is a gem and showed her beautiful smile readily. Mr. D took a while to warm up to me, but I managed to get a few smiles from him.

As with all families, I find it so interesting to see their dynamic. And these four were no different. Each one of them have different personalities and it’s always fascinating to me that kids can be so different. I remember the first time I learned that, while my kids may look alike, they are completely different from each other. I was so excited to photograph these peeps. Their mama is my Julesey’s pre-school teacher over at Wee Wuns and has probably been even more excited for the day to have come! So we set out to field full of trees, tall grass, an old tin barn….and mosquitos. Yes, friends, they’re back and in full attack mode! But we didn’t let that get us down.

I met the girls of this family last year during a photo shoot with Stitched With Love. Soon after, mom scheduled a full family session with me. Her session was scheduled for November, but something came up and we had to reschedule. Unfortunately, I book so fast and so far in advance that we weren’t able to reschedule until April!

And on the day of the shoot, the clouds came rolling in, the thunder rolled. But we didn’t let that get us down…there was no way either mom or I would have stood for it!! We set out to a quaint little park in their neighborhood and walked around looking at turtles and ducks. Yes, we were sprinkled on, but it was refreshing!
